This is a grating for roughing coarse materials that is installed transversally and perpendicularly to the liquid flow from which the largest solids are to be removed.
It is normally used when the aim is to remove very coarse solids, as a very simple form of protection for some other device deployed in the same flow or in by-pass troughs (parallel to those in which more efficient filtering systems have been installed) and operates in an emergency and at sporadic intervals.
It consists of strong metallic chassis that is attached to the side walls of the trough where it is to be installed and which serves as frame and support for the bars that form the grating and determine the size or spacing of the mesh desired.
In addition, it is fitted with a long handle rake for performing manual cleaning of the grating and a small container for collecting the solids removed.
