Storm Overflow Screen

THE ROMAG TYPE QUILTON Storm overflow Screen is designed as a modular system. Each and every model consists of the same features that are assembled as per requirements in order to deliver the model desired. The sidewalls consist of rigid square tubing and sections of folded steel sheet, which are used to support the screen, the cleaning trolleys and the drive system, as well as to separate the water.

The bars on the screen are smooth steel and are pre-stressed. Due to this, when the screen is not in operation the bars are only subject to the initial pre-tensing. This allows for using long bars of small section, so maximising the use of the surface of the screen.

The cleaning trolleys are located on the water outlet side and are guided by the rails. The trolleys bear the screen's cleaning rakes and attach them to it.

The cleaning of the screen is activated by a level control at the beginning of the discharge. After it has been activated, the cleaning trolleys move with the cleaning rakes, forwards and backwards, driven by a hydraulic mechanism. The cleaning of the screen's surfaces is performed in two directions; nevertheless, the removal of the solids deposited is only carried out when there is forwards movement. The solids retained and removed by the rakes are displaced along the screen's filtering surface and removed from it to be carried to the wastewater treatment plant (E.D.A.R.) by the water itself.

The particles of dirt that become attached to the rakes are removed at both ends by scrapers deployed there for that purpose.

The screen's cleaning device ensures that the filtering screen is always clean and that the flow can always be filtered, however long the rainfall may last.

The screen is cleaned by combs deployed for this purpose. Each one travels over approximately one quarter of the total distance. With each cleaning sweep the wastes are displaced this distance towards the discharge side. The combs move simultaneously, brace the screen and at the same time act as spacers for the screen bars.

The distance between the cleaning trolleys is approximately 2 m. The lateral displacement of the bars is restricted by the rake to 0.25 mm on each side. The maximum period of cleaning is approximately 15 seconds. All the dirt or wastes that collect on the filtering surface or between the bars are removed during this time.
